There will be Common Arc updating on May 12th, 2020 between the hours of 8am-12pm. This will be open to anyone whose certs expire before August 11th, 2020. Below is a list of members whose certs will expire before then. Please call the office to schedule your time slot. You will be required to bring your own face covering and welding shield. You will also be required to remain in your vehicle until your turn to adhere to Social Distancing guidelines.
MOST OSHA DRUG TEST AND TRAINING
If you need the OSHA 5 hr Refresher please call The office to set up the online version, to be sent to your email.
If your Drug Test is about to expire, there haas been a 90 day extension added to your date. You can also call MOST and request a chain- of custody be emailed to you.
VAcation Fund Checks
The Vacation Fund has decided that, due to COVID-19 and our current situation, the Vacation checks will be issued twice this year. On June 1st, 2020 they will be issuing checks consisting of funds collected between Sept. 1st, 2019 – Dec 31st, 2019. A second check will be issued December 1st, 2020 , for the dates of Jan. 1st, 2020 through August 31st, 2020. Please make sure your address is updated in the BDS so that you may receive this check promptly. There will be NO pick-up available.
NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS
President Jones has decided to move the elections from the June date to August and September 2020, due to the COVID Pandemic. As always Articcle 25 of our Constitution will be adhered to.

YOU KNOW WITH THE CURRENT COVID-19 SITUATION, IT HAS BECOME VERY CHALLENGING TO KEEP OUR WELDING CERTIFICATIONS CURRENT. WE HAVE EXPRESSED OUR CONCERN TO THE COMMON ARC PROGRAM. OUR PROGRAM ADHERES TO ASME SECTION IV OF THE CODE, OUR PROGRAM LEADERS ARE IN DISCUSSION TO FIND WAYS TO EXTEND THE CODE REQUIREMENTS DUE TO THE SITUATION THAT PRESENTS ITSELF. AT THIS POINT ASME HAS PRESENTED NO SOLUTION. THEREFORE, WE MUST TAKE THE SITUATION INTO OUR OWN HANDS. WE WILL TRY TO ARRANGE A CONTRACTOR TO COME TO THE HALL IN MAY AND SOME HOW COME UP WITH A METHOD OF UPDATING WELDING CERTIFICATIONS THAT WILL BE SAFE FOR OUR MEMBERS. AS THIS DEVELOPS YOU WILL BE INFORMED.

ANYONE WHO’S DRUG SCREENING IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE, THERE HAS BEEN A 90-DAY EXTENSION ADDED TO YOUR EXPIRATION DATE. THIS EXTENSION SHOULD GET US TO A BETTER TIME. IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU STILL WISH TO TAKE THE DRUG SCREENING YOU CAN CALL MOST AND REQUEST THE CHAIN-OF-CUSTODY.

As you know our current situation with the Coronavirus (Covid-19). Saturday March 21, 2020 Governor Murphy issued a stay at home executive order for all non-essential workers which includes all non-profit organization.
Given our status being a non-profit organization we will close the office beginning Monday March 23, 2020 until our States situation improves.
Moving forward given our ability to access our dispatch system from the web and handle most of our duties from home, we should get through this with minimal disruption. Especially since many of our current and upcoming work has been delayed because of the virus. Those members whose jobs are not shut down, I urge you to use social distancing and proper hygiene when ever possible and by all means if you are not feeling well stay home.
All phone calls to the office will be forwarded to my cell phone or to one of the Business Agents cell phone as to not disrupt our ability to service our members and contractors to the best of our ability during this time.
We will be arranging conferences calls with both the Executive Board and the Scholarship Committee so that business can be conducted in a manner that would best serve our members and our organization.
I ask you all to keep a close look out for emails, text and to visit our website as this is the fastest and most efficient way at this time to communicate. Any updates on our situation will be communicated in this manner. Due to overwhelming concern for the safety and health of our members and staff here at Local 28. We will be adhering to specific mandates given to us by President Jones and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers.
To comply with government guidelines on social distancing:
All Apprenticeship classes and meetings will be cancelled until further notice.
All Monthly Meetings will be cancelled until further notice
The Weld Shop will be closed until further notice.

Out of concern for our Membership, we have decided to proceed on the side of caution and cancel this months meeting (March 13th, 2020). We anticipate a return to the normal schedule on April 10th, 2020.

There will be a contractor at the Union Hall Shop Conducting Common Arc Updating on March 10th, 2020. Between the hours of 8am-12pm. Please review your common arc certs and take the proper action to keep them current.
Code Training and OSHA 30 Training
We have Scheduled Boilermaker Code Class for March 17th and 18th. Please keep in mind Code Training must be completed before the end of December 2020.
OSHA 30 Training will be March 2nd- 5th. Please call the office to register.
EPRI Rigging Training/ Certification
Anyone interested in EPRI Rigging Training (this is rigging over and above the required MOST Rigging) can contact Jim Paglia for details and Requirements 609-784-8969
Scholarship Testing will be April 25th @ 9 am sharp. Please call the hall or email firstname.lastname@example.org to sign your child up ASAP.
It has come to our attention that there was an error made in the Monthly Dues Increase, set on 1/1/2020. We have adjusted the Dues error back to the mandated amount of $50.30 per month. All dues charges have been corrected on Our end and a $1.00 credit was issued to every active member. As always all payment overages will be applied to your accounts to go towards upcoming Monthly Charges.
Monthly dues increase will begin on January 1st, 2020. Union Dues will increase by $1.00, bringing you to a total of $51.30 per month. Please make the necessary adjustments.
Common Arc Cert Updating
There will be a contractor at the union hall on January 7th. 2020 between the hours of 8am-1pm, conducting Common Arc Updating. Please review your certs and take the appropriate action to keep your welding certs. current. We are trying to bring a contractor in every other month for updating. Going forward this will be the ONLY way to keep current.
Code Training and Leadership Training
We will be scheduling these classes as soon as scheduling becomes available by the international. Please keep in mind that Code training must be completed by the end of December 2020. You will be notified about the next training classes.
