2021 Contract Wage Allocation

January 1, 2021 will begin our final year of our Negotiated Contract; Therefore, we will need to allocate the $2.00 increase. In actuality we still have a 2% Pension Increase as part of the Pension Recovery Plan, so we will be allocating $1.63 into our wage package. If you have any suggestions on this matter please send them to the Hall in writing, by October 15th, 2020. The E-board will then review and bring the choices to the membership for discussion at our November Meeting.

Pac Fund Discussion

We have been discussing readopting the PAC Fund (Political Action Contribution Fund) at previous meetings. The importance of having a seat-at- the-table in our states “political world” is integral to the survival of our trade, as we experienced with Bill A-805. The adoption of the PAC Fund will need discussion and to proceed, a secret ballot vote from the membership since the By-Laws will need to be amended. Plan to attend the October meeting for a floor discussion.

MAKE BILL A- 805 HAPPEN

Dear Members,

Bill A-805 will reach the Assembly Floor in Trenton on Monday 6/29/20. This is the Bill that will require all contract employees to be training in or have served in a certified Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program or meet that specific trades Journeyman’s requirements. I have been working on this Bill for almost 1 year and we are on the goal line. This bill if passed on the Assembly floor should go to the Governor’s desk to be made Law. This Bill will require those contractors that don’t always play by the rules, bring their work standards to the level expected out of us. This should mean greater opportunities for all that take their trade seriously, as we do through our training requirements to be the most safe and skilled option to our owners and contractors. I need your help for the final push, Below is a list of Assemblymen and Assemblywoman, please find the ones that pertain to your location and express your support for A-805 so that these Hazardous work sites receive the safest and most skilled work force available.

Thank you for all your help!  Jim

COVID-19 Response and Closure Updates

A Message from Bus. Manager Chew

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As you know our current situation with the Coronavirus (Covid-19). Saturday March 21, 2020 Governor Murphy issued a stay at home executive order for all non-essential workers which includes all non-profit organization.

Given our status being a non-profit organization we will close the office beginning Monday March 23, 2020 until our States situation improves.

Moving forward given our ability to access our dispatch system from the web and handle most of our duties from home, we should get through this with minimal disruption. Especially since many of our current and upcoming work has been delayed because of the virus. Those members whose jobs are not shut down, I urge you to use social distancing and proper hygiene when ever possible and by all means if you are not feeling well stay home.

All phone calls to the office will be forwarded to my cell phone or to one of the Business Agents cell phone as to not disrupt our ability to service our members and contractors to the best of our ability during this time.

We will be arranging conferences calls with both the Executive Board and the Scholarship Committee so that business can be conducted in a manner that would best serve our members and our organization.

I ask you all to keep a close look out for emails, text and to visit our website as this is the fastest and most efficient way at this time to communicate. Any updates on our situation will be communicated in this manner. We will do our best to get information out to those members that do not have the ability to receive emails or texts.boilermakerslocal28.com

We must all use social distancing and proper hygiene to lessen the affects of this virus. Keep your families safe!

Very Truly Yours,

James Chew
